Community Connections
For over 40 years, ESC has been a privately held company headquartered in Knoxville, Tennessee and with a development office in Austin, TX. Now, it’s time to give back to the communities that have treated us so well for the past four decades. Through participation in various local programs, ESC is able to show Knoxville and Austin our appreciation.

ESC was excited to recently join the Austin Chamber of Commerce. As a new member of the Austin professional community, we are looking forward to meeting other members and participating in events. Stay tuned as we will update this area with our activities!

Employees In Action

We believe in leading by example. As an Adopt-A-Stream Program Partner and in conjunction with other partners, ESC helps protect the health and serenity of our local waterways. Through an elevated awareness of water quality issues, training on stream health monitoring, and an intimate involvement in the solution process through cleanups and other means of reducing trash, we help improve our waterways.

As one of Tennessee’s Tree Cities, Knoxville prides itself on the city landscape, taking care of existing and planning for future trees. Every year, the city plants 500 trees along city roads through the Street Tree Planting Program. ESC understands the role that trees play in a healthy environment and is proud to be a member of the Street Tree Planting Program.

Green Challenge

We realize how far a little effort goes when it comes to helping the environment. By taking steps to reduce our carbon footprint, as individuals and as a company, we can do our part to ensure the health of our environment for the future.

With nearly 100 employees, ESC realizes that we use a significant amount of paper in our normal daily routine. With recycling containers placed throughout the office, we encourage all of our employees to recycle items. In 2009, ESC recycled 3,792 pounds of paper. By recycling 3,792 pounds of paper, we impacted the environment by saving:

32 trees
30.9 barrels of oil
13,272 gallons of water
114 pounds of air pollution prevented from being released
6.3 cubic yards of landfill space
7,774 kWh of electricity (enough to power the average home for 266 days)

ESC also encourages employees to recycle plastic containers. In 2009, we recycled 325 pounds of plastic, impacting the environment by saving:

938 kWh of electricity (enough to power the average home for 32 days)
2.6 barrels of oil
15.925 million btu’s of energy
4.9 cubic yards of landfill space

Recycling also helps create jobs. For every 13 jobs lost in the virgin materials waste disposal industry, recycling creates 100 jobs. So the next time you think about throwing your paper or plastic out, remember what an impact recycling can have.

Ways To Go Green

Be smart with your use of energy

Keep your thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and higher in the summer.
When you're not using appliances, unplug them.
Use cold water to wash your clothes.

Keep an eye on your water consumption

Install a low-flow showerhead.
Ensure that each faucet has an aerator attached.
When deciding which items to place in your garden, consider drought-tolerant native plants.

Save gas!

If possible, walk or ride your bike to work.
Encourage your local government to increase funding for sidewalks and bike lanes.

Eat locally

Buying from local farmers keeps money in the local economy.
Eat at restaurants that procure ingredients locally.

Lose the bottled water

Instead of buying bottled water, use a filter to purify tap water and place it in a reusable water bottle.
